SC National Guard cap - possible expansion

Highlight:  Possible Expansion of SCNG CAP to Include Continuing Education

The South Carolina National Guard College Assistance Program (SCNG CAP), initiated in 2007, continues to support members of the South Carolina Army and Air National Guard by providing financial assistance and incentives for their service. Administered by the Commission on Higher Education in collaboration with the South Carolina National Guard, SCNG CAP has been instrumental in facilitating educational pursuits for service members.

Beginning Stage(s) of Meeting Emerging Needs:

Recently, SCNG CAP representatives have voiced an interest in extending its benefits to encompass continuing education coursework. Recognizing the evolving aspirations of service members, particularly towards acquiring certifications for workforce entry,  the National Guard CAP representatives are just in the beginning stage of discussions with a few Continuing Education Peer Group representatives from various colleges and institutions.

Looking Ahead:

The dialogue between the SC Air and Army National Guard representatives and the Continuing Education Peer Group reflects a preliminary and proactive approach toward meeting the educational needs of National Guard service members. These discussions include ways to empower service members with diverse educational opportunities to enhance their career prospects and meet potential workforce needs, and continue to underscore the commitment of SCNG CAP and its partners to adapt to the changing educational and workforce landscape.
